WARNING: This film was advertised as a Christmas movie. It is NOT.
Rare Exports is a film from Finland, dealing with the search for, and discovery of, Santa Claus.
But it's not the jolly, happy, smiling, benevolent, avuncular Santa that we all know and love. Finnish legends and folklore claim the real Santa Claus is demonic and a malevolent supernatural being who knows which little boys and girls are naughty and nice, but is only concerned with the naughty ones.
With that said, it's not a movie you should show little kids. Older children who've developed a dark sense of humor might find it fun, though.
Rare Exports is basically a Steven Spielberg tribute. It is remarkably well-made, and has Spielberg's style all over it, especially the ending. But it's a dark, twisted, subversive Spielberg homage.
So, here's the basic plot: In a remote area of Finland, some people are trying to blast open a mountain. Why? They believe the real Santa Claus is buried there.
Do they find something? Yes. Is it Santa Claus? Watch the movie and have fun.
