Although it's not Bresson's first film, it's his breakthrough, as well as being the one that lays the groundwork for his style and themes.

A rather young priest becomes the priest of a small parish.  He's not exactly welcomed or accepted.  He also has a serious stomach ailment that may or may not be cancer.  Despite these obstacles, he soldiers on, trying to do both his work and the Lord's.
